Prime Minister heads to Washington to meet IMF and World Bank

Prime Minister Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell is on a trip to the United States and the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister Mitchell left Grenada Thursday , October 10th, to participate in annual meetings at the World Bank and the IMF in Washington, DC.

The Grenadian leader is set to give a status update to a World Bank meeting on Friday about this country’s move to restructure its economy and put it on a growth oriented path.

Prime Miister Mitchell said Grenada is putting forward preliminary proposals covering a broad range of issues including income tax and property tax.

The Grenadian leader has personally been meeting with various groups in the country including the trade unions, briefing them on broad areas being proposed to the IMF.

Stakeholders in Grenada such as the conference of churches, private sector and the trade unions have thrown their support behind government’s effort to restructure the national debt.

They are participating in a series of national television discussions aimed at informing the population on the major relevant issues from national debt to unemployment.

Early next week, Prime Minister will depart DC for NY and the United Kingdom, where he will meet with a number of business leaders and potential investors.

In the United Kingdom, Prime Minister will also meet with the Grenadian diaspora community around middle of next week.

Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Elvin Nimrod will be the Acting Prime Minister in the absence of the Prime Minister.

The Honourable Oliver Joseph will be the Acting Minister of Finance.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by his Press Secretary, Kisha Alexander Grant. They return to Grenada on Friday 18th.
