26 días secuestrados en Libia: una nueva comunicación mantiene la preocupación por la falta de información sobre su situación jurídica

Las familias de Lucas Aguilera y Paula Giménez recibieron este 18 de junio una nueva comunicación telefónica por parte de ambos ciudadanos argentinos secuestrados en Libia del Este desde el pasado 24 de mayo, junto a otras ocho personas voluntarias integrantes de una misión humanitaria internacional de solidaridad con Palestina. Los diez integrantes del Convoy Terrestre Global Sumud Magreb permanecen privados de su libertad desde entonces.
La comunicación permitió constatar que tanto Lucas como Paula se encuentran físicamente estables y en mejores condiciones generales que durante las semanas anteriores. Sin embargo, la conversación volvió a confirmar la persistencia de un escenario de profunda incertidumbre e indefensión jurídica.
A veintiséis días de su detención arbitraria, continúan sin recibir información clara, oficial y verificable sobre su situación procesal. Tampoco existen precisiones respecto de los plazos de la investigación en curso, las condiciones de una eventual liberación o los tiempos previstos para la resolución de su caso. La opacidad sobre los procedimientos a los que están siendo sometidos sigue siendo absoluta.
Esta falta de información mantiene la preocupación de las familias y de las organizaciones que acompañan el caso, ya que las personas detenidas continúan privadas de su libertad sin acceso pleno a las garantías procesales más básicas ni a información suficiente sobre las acusaciones o actuaciones que se llevan adelante en su contra.
Lucas Aguilera y Paula Giménez permanecen detenidos por haber participado en una iniciativa civil, pacífica y humanitaria organizada para facilitar el ingreso de ayuda de emergencia, alimentos, medicamentos y asistencia médica a la población palestina.
Gestiones diplomáticas y consulares
Durante los últimos días continuaron las gestiones diplomáticas impulsadas por familiares, organizaciones y equipos jurídicos de distintos países.
En este marco, el cónsul de Portugal pudo realizar una visita y continúan las solicitudes de gestiones consulares y jurídicas impulsadas por los familiares y el equipo de NODAL hacia los distintos Estados involucrados, así como las acciones de los abogados designados para acceder a visitar y asistir a los diez voluntarios y voluntarias.
Sin embargo, las familias siguen reclamando información oficial, directa y verificable sobre la situación de los diez voluntarios, así como acceso pleno a sus representantes legales y garantías efectivas de debido proceso.
La solidaridad internacional no es un delito
Lucas Aguilera y Paula Giménez forman parte de una misión humanitaria internacional cuyo objetivo era expresar solidaridad con el pueblo palestino y reclamar el ingreso de ayuda humanitaria a Palestina. Su participación se encuentra amparada por los principios del derecho internacional humanitario y por los derechos fundamentales de asociación, expresión y solidaridad internacional.
Junto a ellos permanecen detenidos Matías Álvarez Rodríguez (Uruguay), Alicia Armesto Núñez (España), Domenico Centrone (Italia), Leonarda Alberizia (Italia), Ana Margarida França Santana Baptista (Portugal), Lauro Kwoczala (Polonia), Ashraf Khoja (Túnez) y Jenelle Jones (Estados Unidos).
Por ello seguimos exigiendo:
- La inmediata liberación de Lucas Aguilera, Paula Giménez y de la totalidad de las personas voluntarias detenidas.
- Información oficial, clara y verificable sobre su situación jurídica y procesal.
- Acceso pleno a la defensa y a todas las garantías del debido proceso.
- El fin de cualquier forma de aislamiento, incomunicación u hostigamiento psicológico.
- El fortalecimiento de las gestiones diplomáticas y consulares por parte de todos los Estados involucrados.
- El acceso humanitario permanente e independiente para verificar las condiciones de detención y el estado de salud de las personas privadas de su libertad.
A 26 días de su detención arbitraria, la preocupación persiste. No vamos a naturalizar que continúen privados de su libertad por haber participado en una misión humanitaria internacional. Los diez integrantes del Convoy Terrestre Global Sumud Magreb —los 10 del Magreb— permanecen detenidos sin información clara sobre su situación jurídica, sin acceso pleno a garantías procesales y sin certezas sobre su futuro inmediato.

June 19, 2026. The families of Lucas Aguilera and Paula Giménez received a new phone call from both Argentine citizens on June 18. They have been detained in Eastern Libya since May 24, together with eight other volunteers who were part of an international humanitarian mission in solidarity with Palestine. The ten members of the Global Sumud Maghreb Land Convoy have remained deprived of their liberty ever since.
The communication confirmed that both Lucas and Paula are physically stable and in better overall condition than during previous weeks. However, the conversation once again confirmed the persistence of a situation marked by profound uncertainty and legal vulnerability.
Twenty-six days after their arbitrary detention, they continue to receive no clear, official, or verifiable information regarding their legal status. There is also no information concerning the timeline of the ongoing investigation, the conditions under which they might be released, or the expected timeframe for resolving their case. The opacity surrounding the procedures to which they are being subjected remains absolute.
This lack of information continues to concern the families and the organizations supporting the case, as the detainees remain deprived of their liberty without full access to the most basic procedural guarantees and without sufficient information regarding the accusations or legal proceedings being pursued against them.
Lucas Aguilera and Paula Giménez remain detained for having participated in a civilian, peaceful, and humanitarian initiative organized to facilitate the delivery of emergency aid, food, medicine, and medical assistance to the Palestinian population.
Diplomatic and Consular Efforts
Over recent days, diplomatic efforts led by families, organizations, and legal teams from different countries have continued.
Within this framework, the Portuguese consul was able to carry out a visit, while requests for further consular and legal action continue to be pursued by family members and the NODAL team before the various States involved, alongside the efforts of the appointed lawyers seeking access to visit and assist the ten volunteers.
Nevertheless, the families continue to demand official, direct, and verifiable information regarding the situation of the ten volunteers, as well as full access to their legal representatives and effective guarantees of due process.
International Solidarity Is Not a Crime
Lucas Aguilera and Paula Giménez are part of an international humanitarian mission whose objective was to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and to demand the entry of humanitarian aid into Palestine. Their participation is protected by the principles of international humanitarian law and by the fundamental rights to association, expression, and international solidarity.
Alongside them remain detained Matías Álvarez Rodríguez (Uruguay), Alicia Armesto Núñez (Spain), Domenico Centrone (Italy), Leonarda Alberizia (Italy), Ana Margarida França Santana Baptista (Portugal), Lauro Kwoczala (Poland), Ashraf Khoja (Tunisia), and Jenelle Jones (United States).
For this reason, we continue to demand:
- The immediate release of Lucas Aguilera, Paula Giménez, and all detained volunteers.
- Official, clear, and verifiable information regarding their legal and procedural situation.
- Full access to legal defense and all due process guarantees.
- An end to any form of isolation, incommunicado detention, or psychological harassment.
- Stronger diplomatic and consular action by all States involved.
- Permanent and independent humanitarian access to verify detention conditions and the health status of those deprived of their liberty.
Twenty-six days after their arbitrary detention, concern remains. We will not normalize the fact that they continue to be deprived of their liberty for participating in an international humanitarian mission. The ten members of the Global Sumud Maghreb Land Convoy — the Maghreb 10 — remain detained without clear information regarding their legal situation, without full access to procedural guarantees, and without certainty about their immediate future.
