Inaugural CARICOM Inter-Faith Conference

The first ever Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Regional Inter-Faith Conference will be held here on February 17.

The conference which is targeted at religious leaders of faiths practiced across the Caribbean, and in particular, leaders of national and regional umbrella Faith-based Organisations (FBOs), will be preceded by an Inter-Faith Service on Sunday.

The conference is being convened in response to a request from the Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer who felt that such a conference should take place prior to the 24th  Inter-Sessional Summit to be held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines from February  24-25 .

Addressing the CARICOM “Change Drivers” meeting on January 9 this year, Prime Minister Spencer said the Caribbean continues to be challenged by a multiplicity of issues “not least of which are sustained economic growth and development, the continuing impact of the global fiscal and economic difficulties, crime and violence, the impact of climate change as a consequence of global warming”.

Prime Minister Spencer called for the church to “forge efforts in our pursuits.
