Talking Caribbean Clean Energy Tech

The Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority recently hosted the first-ever Caribbean Clean Energy Technology Symposium in St Thomas.

The conference, co-hosted by the US Department of Energy, the USVI government and Caribbean-Central America Action, was the first of three planned annual gatherings on clean energy technology in the region.

It focused on “common goals and create action plans with deliverables that will lead to increasing access to energy efficiency and clean and renewable energy technology in Caribbean nations,” according to a statement from VIEDA.

The US Department of Energy also presented the “Energy Transition Initiative Islands Playbook,” a guide on ways of organizing a transition to a greener energy system.

The conference came after a high-level Caribbean energy security summit hosted in Washington earlier this year by US Vice President Joe Biden.
