Curacao to fight crime with drone

The Curacao Public Prosecutor (OM) and Curacao Police Corps (KPC) will use modern means to tackle the growing crime during the first quarter of the New Year. The Dutch department of defence has sent an unmanned aircraft called Raven to the island for this period. With this drone it will be possible for the authorities to detect and follow criminals.

Before and after the carnival season especially, there is a peak in robberies and other crimes. The OM wants to do everything possible to achieve a significant decrease in crime during this period.

The request to the Dutch ministry of defence for the deployment of an unmanned aircraft was granted.

The drone provides more information about a situation and environment, which the authorities get by using cameras that transmit images to a ground station. As a result, appropriate measures can be taken.
